The Wyoming State Forestry Division (WSFD) is leading the way in sustainable forest management, and we’re dedicated to preserving and enhancing Wyoming's forest resources for generations to come.
In all forest management activities, we strive to be good, responsible stewards of the land and maintain compliance with best management practices to protect soils and water quality.
Why do Wyoming's forested state trust lands need to be managed?
In short, we manage state trust lands to enhance their long-term value to the trust and to produce revenue through the sustainable harvest of forest products.
Of Wyoming’s 263,000 acres of forested state trust lands, about 137,000 acres are available for commercial harvest. The annual commercial volume sold averages about 4 million board feet, and the revenue from these sales goes directly toward supporting Wyoming's public schools and other state institutions.
