WSFD Fire Management News:
NEW - Wyoming has instituted regulations and application process for Private Fire Prevention and Qualified Insurance Approved Resources. Regulations & Application
FIRE UPDATE: Sunshine Beech: (Carbon County) BLM Jurisdiction, tenth of an acre. 100% Contained.
Snyder Creek: (Niobrara County) Private land, 78 acres. Fire caused from power utility pole. Weston County responded as mutual aid resources and assisted control & mop-up of the fire area. 100% contained.
Tincorn Butte: (Sheridan County) Private land, 7.53 acres. 100% contained.
Spread Creek: (Teton County) USFS- Bridger Teton, Black Rock Ranger District. The Spread Creek fire started from lightning on May 13 and grew to 257 acres due to high winds. The BT has established a small type 3 organization and is handling the incident. They utilized the Teton County's helicopter Rescue 22 for bucket drops throughout most of today. Resources from the Bridger Teton, National Park Service, and Jackson Hole Fire & EMS responded to support the incident. Additional resources were ordered and arrived yesterday, May 14th, including Type 2 IA crew, four Type 1 IHC crews including Black Mountain, Pike, Wyoming, and Lone Peak. Additional aviation arrived including an air attack platform and two fixed wing scoopers. The fire's proximity to Jackson Lake will allow a quick turn around time for the scoopers. The fire burned through mixed conifer, sage and a riparian willow drainage. The fire area did not received the high winds that were predicted for the afternoon and received a much needed wetting rain around 2100 on May 13th, allowing resources to make substantial progress and no additional fire growth was observed on May 14th. Fire weather with high winds are forecasted again today. Fire is being managed by an ad hoc type 3 organization.
Rochelle 2: (Converse/Campbell County): Private & USFS- Medicine Bow-Routt, Thunder Basin National Grassland. Fire was caused by an oil field equipment explosion. Active fire behavior with short-range spotting and group torching led to approximately 500 acres of growth on May 14th. High winds, critical fire weather, and challenging terrain made containment difficult. 18 engines, 1 Type 1 IHC (Craig), and 1 Type 2 crew are assigned to the incident along with various dozers and heavy equipment. Aviation resources assigned include an air attack platform, 2 LATs, and 2 Type 1 Helicopters. The fire transitioned from type 4 IC to type 3 IC (ad hoc organization) late afternoon on May 14th. Elevated fire weather conditions expected today with gusty north to northwest winds expected this afternoon and into the evening. Today will be the driest day before humidity trends higher into the weekend and next week.
